Robert Lewandowski Vows To "Starve" Arsenal Of Chances

Bayern Munich welcome Arsenal to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Round of 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League, having crossed paths with the Gunners six times in the last five years.

Prolific striker, Robert Lewandowski has vowed to limit Arsenal's chances to merely "few chances" by performing to their best and full concentration.

Arsene Wenger's men have a poor recent record in knockout fixtures against Bayern, bowing out of Europe's elite club competition at the hands of the Allianz Arena team at the same stage (the last 16) in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
The Bundesliga side have lost just two of those recent encounters and also dumped Arsene Wenger's side out at the last-16 stage in the 2012/2013 (3-3 on aggregate with bayern proceeding on away goals) and 2013/2014 (3-1 on aggregate) season.

The reigning Bundesliga champions have yet to hit top form in 2017, but Lewandowski is optimistic about his side's chances of eliminating the Gunners.

Carlo Ancelotti's side will warm up for the game with an underwhelming victory over Ingolstadt (requiring two late goals ti snatch the win) but Lewandowski, who has scored five Champions League goals this season, is convinced Bayern can get the better of their Premier League rivals again.

“The win in Ingolstadt was very important. Now we’re focused on the Champions League," he told Bayern's official website.
“Everyone’s waiting for this game. It will be a big challenge for us. I hope we can deliver a good performance and play really well here in Munich.
“Arsenal have very good footballers. They know what it means to play in the Champions League.
“We need to concentrate on ourselves. If we play our game then Arsenal probably won’t get many chances. But we must play well from back to front," Lewandowski added.
"Our plan is to ideally score at least one goal and not concede any. That would be a good night for us."
Arsenal have not progressed further than the last-16 since the 2009/10 campaign while Bayern have not failed to reach at least the semi-finals in the last six years.
Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso could be an injury doubt for the game after appearing to pick up a knee problem in training before limping from the field.
The first leg takes place at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, February 15, with the return fixture at Emirates Stadium on March 7.
